Financial support. How much financial support do they really give? Considering their income it seems to be that the good side of this is only so they can stick their hand up and say “Hey, look at us, we’re sooooo good”. If you are given $1 million to do good works with but only use $10 of that money, is that really a good thing you’re doing?
Education. This is true also, but when it is held up to the light of day and weighed against the problems in the schools caused by the priests having too much authority over the children, especially the boys it become a little less black and white. The schools have become a way for the pedophiles to get close to their targets and with the blessing of the parents. This goes for church run recreation centres as well. Yes, I know there are a lot of people doing good work out there, but that does not negate the problems faced by others. Our courts are run in a way that we are not supposed to put innocent people in jail even if it means the guilty may go free. So we protect adults even at the expense of having criminals running around. Why are we not protecting our children to the same extent? As a parent are you willing to allow someone to rape them so that 5000 other children can play basketball? Or is it ok just so long as it’s only 1/5000 odds against it being your child? If you know it’s going to happen, is it alright by you that it’s someone elses child and not yours? Where do we draw the line?
Missionary Work. Well yes, they do this don’t they. But is it necessary or is it just the religions trying to bolster their numbers? What good does it actually do? And please, telling me you are bringing the ‘word of god’ to them isn’t telling me jack. I’m asking for verifiable good being brought to their existence. If you can build them a house, just fine. Has it really helped them make a better life? Or is it just a house that will make someone else jealous and have them thrown out of so they can move in? Not all the gifts you give are of benefit. Built wells for water? Now there is a benefit. As long as it isn’t with the proviso they learn all about Jesus and give themselves up to your tender care. One shouldn’t be dependent on the other. Oh, and look at Uganda. Wonderful bit of missionary work going on there. Religious missionaries are now responsible for a massive loss of life after telling everyone that it is bad to be homosexual. They are killing them all. They are even making laws to permit this atrocity they learned about from American Missionaries. None of these morons should be allowed to go on missionary work without stating the things they are going to be teaching. Their should be strict guidelines put in place to stop this kind of atrocious behaviour. It’s not much good crying later that you didn’t mean it. Tell that to the dead.
Making Saints. So? The latest elevation to Sainthood was Mother Mary McKillop of Australia. The Vatican have looked into the so-called miracles she performed ‘since her death’ and have agreed that they are worthy miracly. Or is that miracley? I can never keep up with the new words everyone keeps coming up with. But, back to Mary. She was excommunicated. Then un-excommunicated. Or is that de-excommunicated or dis-excommunicated? They really do confuse me. So what did she do that has enough meaning to the Vatican that she should become a saint?
But cop an earful of this…
“It’s more than just Catholics, the whole country has a new hero — someone that will give them hope for the future,” said Garry McLean, CEO of the Mary MacKillop Heritage Center in Melbourne.
The whole country? Isn’t that a bit presumptuous Garry? I don’t give a tinker’s cuss if she becomes a saint. There are many more people in this country that are much more deserving of being a hero than some dead woman that has fairy tales told about her. Miracles my arse. The second miracle is some woman from Australia that may have had cancer and prayed to Mary and now she doesn’t have cancer. Where’s the proof? Did she bother helping eradicate cancer by giving the research doctors some of her blood so that others may be saved? NO. Nice person you are. Also, why would anyone think that someone who was supposedly so nice as Mary would help just two people when they have the power to help so many more. Is not a child more worthy of having their life saved than some middle aged story teller that doesn’t have the decency to help others? She may have the cure for a whole range of cancers within her. But does she think of that or is all she cares about is the fame that comes with the fairy story? I know my opinion. Saint making is nothing more than a PR exercise meant to keep the faithful faithful, to keep them praying so that they may have a chance at the miracle lottery themselves. How low can you get. Tell fairy stories and give people false hope just to get them to stay in line, under your oppressive thumbs and giving up what precious little resources they have so Mr Fancy Hat can live in style with his Celibate Army (don’t ask, don’t tell) following him around.
Marital Counselling. Yeah, right. Tell me something will you. What do xtian women think about sex? Or more to the point, what does the bible tell them to think about sex? If they are teaching women those things, I’d be very worried. On the other side, what does the bible tell men about sex? What does it tell them about how to treat the females in their family?
How do you teach couples about relationships when the bible is teaching things like incest?
Come, let us make our father drink wine, and we will lie with him, that we may preserve seed of our father. Genesis 19:32
And they made their father drink wine that night: and the firstborn went in, and lay with her father; and he perceived not when she lay down, nor when she arose. Genesis 19:33
Caring for the Innocent. You’d think that someone would not have to pay for the sins of someone else. Not even their father. How about for ten generations? How can anyone go to the church expecting help when you see these passages?
He that is wounded in the stones, or hath his privy member cut off, shall not enter into the congregation of the LORD. A bastard shall not enter into the congregation of the LORD; even to his tenth generation shall he not enter into the congregation of the LORD. Deuteronomy 23:1-2
Youth Groups. They sound good don’t they. How about when they get taught that the above are all fine. What about when they get taught that it’s ok to kill fags? When they get told that people of different colour are for their use as slaves? Oh, but they’ll show you the passages that say this isn’t true. Oh, but I can show you the ones that says it is? Yada yada yada, blah, blah, blah. The good ones only ever seem to come out when you need to attempt and prove how good religion is. Other times you live by the ‘word’ of god.
I know, I know, they aren’t all like that and I have never said they were. I know they aren’t. I do know that some are though. So once again I ask, where do we draw the line? When do the scales balance? Does anyone or any other group get the leeway handed out to religion? Would a secular group get away with pedophilia if it was only 50% of them committing that particular crime? 40% ??? 20% ??? Let’s go as low as 1%. If a group of 100 secular youth workers had one person in their midst that hurt a xtian child in this manner what would happen? Would they be allowed to transfer that person to another group in another town with yet another chance to hurt another xtian child? Anyone else outside the church gets the handcuffs slapped on them and an all expense paid holiday courtesy of the taxpayer and a chance to become Bubba’s Bitch. What is the difference? Why is this still happening? Why do you turn your backs on your own children? Can you really turn to them afterwards and say that it’s alright to be molested by a priest because he believes in god? Is that all it takes for you to turn your child over to these freaks?
Charity work. No different from the financial support mentioned earlier. They are taking money from your pockets and using a ‘little’ bit of it to do good work in the name of religion. So what? A lot of that money you donate freely and a lot of the money you donate without even knowing it is not going to charity. Look at the businesses being run by religions these days. Check out how much money they make. They don’t need yours. They are getting your money anyway when they don’t pay taxes.
Religions doing political lobbying. Legally, they aren’t allowed to do this. So why are they still getting away with it? How many laws are being passed lately that have the backing of religious groups? Of course you don’t see XXX Church doing it. You don’t see BBB Church doing it. You do see groups calling themselves something like the Xtian Lobby Group. That way they aren’t a church that can be pointed to. Wake up people. It’s still a religious group and every church that the members of the Xtian Lobby Group belong to should have their tax exempt status removed. Permanently, because they knowingly broke the law. Any lobby group should have to state their political, corporate and religious affiliations before being allowed to lobby. We should know who is helping to formulate laws in our country. If the politicians would be too ashamed of themselves if we knew who they were taking advice from, then they shouldn’t be taking that advice from those people.
This could go on and on, but I’m tired. I’ve said all this before. If you have read it before, have you done anything about it? Have you told somebody else so that their eyes are opened? If you haven’t read it before, now that you have, what are you going to do? Nothing will be changed unless we make ourselves heard. Write a blog, write emails, letters, ring the local radio stations, talk to your politicians. Go. Now. Or at least tomorrow when the sun comes up. But do something.
FOR YOUR OWN SAKE, SPEAK UP
If they thought they could get away with it, some of these Christian fundies would probably go back to torturing people and burning them alive. They're disgusting.
